Your user ID and publisher ID on CityTools are linked to the e-mail address used when setting up your CityTools account.

Because sometimes people come and go from companies, for a publishing account it might be handy to use an e-mail alias (forwarded to a real e-mail address, presumably yours) to sign up with CityTools.

Being able to read e-mail sent to the alias is important -- during sign up we send you a validation e-mail that you need to respond to.

If you use an e-mail alias to sign up and later want to pass the administration of a CityTools account to someone else, you don't have to mess around with your actual e-mail address. Likewise, if at some point you are elected to the U.S. Senate -- we know you've got an eye on it -- and leave your company, the alias can live on even after your e-mail address has expired.

The downside to aliases is you have to ask your IT staff to set one up, etc.

Either way, it's up to you. We're just grateful that you're signing up!
