File Dump Details

Depending on whether you're going to build a news or a classified network, ask your IT department to provide you with a file containing a dump of your classified or news feed.

In the case of classifieds, we have found that for most people it's easiest to just get a dump of the entire classified feed.

You will be able to limit which categories circulate later within the CityTools system. But if you like, you may ask your IT department to dump only the categories you want to share with others in a network.

Important note about file formats
The file format of the dump needs to be either XML, CSV or the native Morris Communications classified format. Don't worry if you don't know what this means – your IT staff will.

If your IT department can't dump classifieds as XML, CSV or Morris, ask them to identify what kind of external format your system can export and import.

Then relay that information to our fearless technical team at support@citytools.net. We're eager to help as many companies to use our networking system as possible and we shall add additional formats as needed and as time permits.

Special geek bonding moment! tell your IT staff that we can directly handle tarred and gzipped (or zipped) versions of the file formats above.

This is handy for you because it means lower bandwidth usage on your end. Don't worry if you don't understand what all this means, just say to IT “CityTools can automatically expand tarred and gzipped and zipped files so if you want to give that to me, it would be great.” Consider it a moment of geek bonding. Wink.
