Map your data to the network
previous page
After you describe your data to us, our servers read through the file you uploaded and pull out all the unique categories from the category field you identified.
When that's done -- it only takes a second or so -- you're ready to map your categories to the network category list. (And you're almost done setting up your first network!)
Now you are going to tell CityTools how to categorize your ads when you upload them TO the network.
This part of the wizard provides a form with two columns â on the left you'll find âmy categoriesâ on the right you'll see a series of drop-down lists of network categories.
Important note: you can control which categories get moved to the network with this tool. Any one of your categories that is left with ânoneâ as its network category will simply be ignored by CityTools.
This could be handy in several circumstances. For example, it might be that you want to join a network that has only six categories, however, your IT staff might find it inconvenient to give you a data dump with only a few categories. In this case, have them dump
ALL of your categories
into a single file and then use this page to instruct CityTools to ignore everything but the three you care about.
Later, if you decide to join another network that consists of 10 different categories, you can use exactly the same file you're getting from your IT staff to use for the new network. Just map the 10 categories that the new network needs at this step and leave the rest set to none. Anything marked none is completely ignored when you do your daily uploads and downloads.
Also, you can
always
go back and change your category mappings -- incoming and outgoing -- after the fact.
If you created this network (as opposed to joining it) and you happened to have used your own categories to create the network categories, simply select the drop down that matches your category and move to the next item on the list.
If this is a network you've joined, you'll likely have to spend a little more time looking at the categories, but in any event, it seldom takes more than five or six minutes.
Remember, on this page you are mapping your categories to show how they'll be translated when you are sending data TO the network category list.
When you have mapped all of your categories that you want to share with the network, click the "process data button" to save these changes
and move to the final step.
