Step 2: Set-up your publisher tools

Here's another form – it looks long, but it's pretty easy.

Rather than reading the instructions here, you can also just go directly to the sign-up form. If anything there perplexes you, come back here to read up on the form and/or go to the next step. (You must be logged into your CityTools account before you can setup your publisher tools).

On the publisher sign-up form, there there are several required fields, and a few more optional fields.
  • The most important fields, of course, are publisher's name and the admin contact/email/phone (typically that will be your info).
  • The tech contact/email/phone is optional – if you fill it in and we need to contact your tech folks, we'll start with this person first. If you leave it blank, we'll contact the admin contact first.
  • The billing e-mail is where we will send invoices if you choose that method of payment. If it's blank we send the e-mails to the admin account.
  • Please ignore the “Allowed posting IP” field for now. It's for an additional service (citizen journalism and direct customer input of ads) that we'll introduce you to in a couple of weeks.
A note on the circulation and web stats
Please fill in all this information because, as you'll see, this is how we tell you how far your network reaches as new members sign up. We aren't asking for anything unpublished here, after all, and when all publishers add this information, you'll get a tidy report you can deliver to advertisers that tells them how greatly your network adds to their reach.

Once this is done, bingo you're on to step 3 to create a new network or join an existing one!
