If you live in the Bay Area, you haven't really "lived" unless you've done these 5 things. And if you're visiting, why not experience the best the area has to offer? Try this list and let me know what you think.
1Take the Ferry out to Angel Island
Take a picnic lunch and lots of warm clothes for a day at Angel Island. You can run, hike or bike around this tiny island. The views are amazing. There are meadows and vistas to explore.
2Visit the Exploratorium
No matter whether you are 8 or 80 - there are tons of things to see and learn at the Exploratorium. This place is absolutely fascinating. Admission is $9 for children, $11 for teenagers, and $14 for adults. Children 3 and under are free. If you have young children, there are party packages, too. It's open every day except most Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
3Go to a Concert at the Greek Theatre
Nothing beats a concert in the cool open air of the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. The performances appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes, and the venue is small enough to feel intimate. Plus, it's a short stroll down Bancroft to College Avenue, Telegraph or Shattuck from the Theatre.
4Tour the De Young, Legion of Honor or SFMOMA Art Museums
On any day, you will find wonderful exhibits on display at each of these three museums. SFMOMA is located downtown on 3rd Street, between Mission and Howard Streets. The De Young Musuem can be found in Golden Gate Park, and the Legion of Honor is located in Lincoln Park, between 34th and Clement Streets. SFMOMA can be found at www.sfmoma.org
5Walk around the Small Local Neighborhoods
Discover the moods and restaurants of the Rockridge area on College Avenue in Oakland, the shops of Cow Hollow in San Francisco, the small town feel of Laurel Street in San Carlos, or the ultimate shopping experience of Walnut Creek. There are not enough days to explore all the gems in the Bay Area.
