I live in Decatur, GA - here are some of the things I love about it.
1The Dekalb Farmer's Market
The farmer's market is one of the reasons why my wife and I moved to this area. It's fantastic and real - you'll find stuff here that will blow your mind. It's better than any market I've ever seen. If you are in the area, go: you'll see what I mean.
2Lake Avondale
We used to live in Avondale, a quirky little nook just inside the perimeter in Atlanta. The anchor of this community is a wonderful little lake, and family walks around it are sublime. Somehow, I do some of my best thinking when walking around this lake. No idea why.
In the spring, the bass spawn and make beds in the sand near the shore. It's a real treat to watch them do their work while the turtles line up to warm in the sun.
One word of warning - watch out for the Canadian geese.

3Downtown Decatur
Downtown Decatur is, in many ways, a high-water mark for sane development and mixed use. The city commission did a very good job of revitalizing this area, which we enjoy each and every week.
4Diversity
Decatur is known for its diversity. This is one of the key reasons why Decatur is so cool.
5The Train Depot
This one is more in praise of the people that live here than the structure itself. A couple of years ago someone had plans to mow down an extremely cool and very old train station right next to the tracks. The community rallied and raised enough cash to physically move the structure back from the tracks (I believe one of the reasons to tear it down was because it violated some "buffer" code) and renovate it in the process. Now it's a mark of pride, not to mention history.
