I'm always interested in the annual Brand Channel survey, which is derived from votes of few thousand marketing professionals. This year's North American edition is notable by how young it is. Online media dominates, along with other "youg" brands like Target and the Daily Show.
1Apple
A million gazillion ipods kind of make you relevant. And lets face it, Apple is now making the sexiest consumer computers in the wold.
2Youtube
I find this really surprising -- I think it's testimony to the youth orientation on this list.
And of course, it's another statement that the brands that count are all online...

3Google
Globally, Google has passed Apple, but not in North America.
Nonetheless, since it ranks so highly with marketing professionals, I guess we know where the advertising money is going next year, eh?
Incidentally, the whole survey is worth reading -- it includes results for Asia, Europe and Latin America as well. I've linked the google title here to the main survey. I figure you know how to get to google on your own.

4Starbucks
Ick... Starbucks sucks.... Don't drink that swill. Almost any place has local coffee houses that are 100 times better. Buy local, baby...
5Wikipedia
This, I dig. Wikipedia is one of the truly great things of the internet. Go Wikipedians, go!
6Target
Ah, more youth. Design and price... I despise the place, though. But that's just me. I'm picky that way.
7craigslist
craiglist... what can you say... it's a cultural phenomenon.
8Daily Show/Colbert Report
If I were the New York Times, I'd be so completely pissed off about this. The Daily Show/Colbert Report makes the list by spoofing the news...
Of course, what they really do is tell the truth behind the news. And it kind of gives you the feeling that if the regular media was a little braver (thanks for helping dupe the nation on Iraq, NYT!!) it might have more of an audience...
So Jon Stewart makes it because he's got courage. The New York Times can't make the list because it's got Judith Miller and refuses to have some balls.

9Whole Foods
Well, the prices are high and I prefer my coop, whose prices are even HIGHER, go figure.
But the whole healthy eating thing is a cause we should embrace. So, props to Whole Foods.
