Hey, we eat our own dog-food here -- we use lists for many of our how-tos. Here's a super quick list that explains how-to make a how-to.

1Oh, this is so simple -- first create your list

The basics of creating a list can be found by clicking this item's title.

But before you go there, glance at the next three items...

2Order each step of the how-to accordingly

Since our lists allow you to order elements, it's a great tool for making a how-to.

Just add each step after the other. If you need to add a step later, it's easy, simply put that step in and us the "up" or "down" controls to move the item where you want it.

3The URL portion of the lists is a really handy for how tos

You can use URLs to link to external web sites if necessary, to link to explanatory photos or even to link to other how tos if you want to chain them together.

For example, the first item in this how-to links to the basic list how to.

This allows readers to drill down to whatever level of detail they need.

4We have a "how to" topic -- please make use of it

One of our goals is to become a good central location where people may find how-tos on all sorts of things.

To make that easier, we've made a "how to" topic on CityTools -- please assign your how tos to that topic.
