This is a list of states -- ranked by earthquake danger -- that have had the most severe quakes from 1974 to 2003, according to the USGS.
1Alaska
Alaska had 12,053 earthquakes greater than magnitude 3.5 between 1974 and 2003. Singlehandedly it accounts for a whopping 57.2% of the total.
Also the USGS says the number of quakes is significantly under reported in Alaska because of a lack of sensing equipment in remote regions.

3Hawaii

4Nevada
Nevada had 778 earthquakes.
5Washington
Washington had 217 earthquakes -- but hey, it's got volcanos like Oregon, so it's got some serious mother-nature-is-tough mojo.
6Idaho
Had 404 earthquakes
7Wyoming
Had 217 earthquakes 3.5 or greater
8Montana
Montana had 186 -- for a mere .9 percent of the total
9Utah

10Oregon
Oregon rounds out the top 10 with a mere 73 earthquakes. But it had Mount St. Helens. So there.
