It's hard to limit the list to just five items, but I'll play along...
1The Mission District
I love the Mission -- everything about it. From all the food and hipster shops on Valencia to all the latino shops on Mission street itself to the splendid graffiti on the walls.
A day is the mission is a day well spent. And while you're down there, be sure to hit Tartine at 18th and Guerrero... It is one of the best bakeries in the world. No joking. There's always a line, but hey, it's worth it...

2Visit the Exploratorium
There are slicker kids science museums around, I suppose, but none that's as fun as the Exploratorium.
Also, make sure to walk under the dome of the Palace of Fine Arts while you're there.

3Catch a concert in Stern Grove
The Stern Grove festival in the summer is one of the great things about San Francisco. It's mostly a scene for residents and not a lot of tourists know about it.
Whether you live here or just visit, you've gotta make this scene in the summer.

4The Ferry Market
Any Saturday morning you can go to the Ferry Building and feast on local produce and food.
Take a bag and an appetite and get ready to spend a couple of hours in culinary bliss... Make sure to sample some Blue Bottle coffee while you're there -- it's the best coffee in the Bay Area.

5Go to North Beach
Hey it's the Beats, baby, at CityLights. Then Italian food. And of course the crass glitter of the strip joints...
