Cool things about CityTools for individuals

As a beta tester who really likes this joint, I feel I should add some things that Bob left out on his list.

1It's a great way to learn what happening in the world

When I see a story and click on it's "where" button, I can zoom around and see the world from different geographic perspectives. I love this!

Just today I was reading a story about the Ivory Coast and then with one click, I could zoom out and see all the stories that had moved on Africa.

I've never seen a news interface that accomplishes this so effortlessly before. In fact, I don't think anyone has tried anything like this.

2Ambient news!

I can't stress enough how much I dig the Ambient news. One day I was on the site and suddenly "Spears" got really big. Now normally I don't give a damn about her, but I clicked on the link and found a ton of stories about her breakdown.

I think Bob is right on with this one. With ambient news, you don't miss anything important.

3The writers aids

I like the way, when you're working on a story, you can do lookups on dictiony.com orwikipedia or whatever right from the editing page.

That's just plain thoughtful.

4Context, baby context

When you read a story and you get boxes featuring other articles in the same category or from the same group.

5The teams!

I love this team thing -- it's a really nice way for a non-profit organization or even a family to share stories that matter to them. I think this will end up being a big deal. I know that I'm going to get non-profits I belong to involved once CityTools launches this week.

6Of course, the lists

I'm just nuts for the lists. Love them. I've got a list in draft for about my favorite restaurants in the city. I'll publish it soon now and you can link to it and agree or disagree...
