After more than a year of sounding Richmond's diverse communities, a group of artists is presenting an art show that attempts to express the city's heart and soul.
The show's interactive exhibits, called Touchable Stories, start today and run through May 13. The artwork captures the city's culture through a combination of oral history, photography, sculpture, video, atmospheric recordings and spinning zoetropes.
"The artists met with the community in relaxed settings to learn about what's important to Richmond residents," said Touchable artistic director Shannon Flattery. "And slowly the artists gravitated to certain topics, and the goal was to design 10 rooms to hold the community's stories."
Touchable Stories show in the former Kaiser Shipyard cafeteria near the Port of Richmond. The lone building, steeped in local history, is across the street (more...)
