Residents in the neighborhood where a teen skateboarder was fatally injured are asking for the city's help, and are also working to help the boy's family.

Monday, Kathy Miramontes, president of the Alisos Villas Homeowner Association, will speak at the Mission Viejo City Council.

It was in front of Miramontes' home that 14-year-old Nathan Gonzalez lay after being struck by an SUV. Miramontes ran outside to help.

"I've never seen anything like this before," she said. "I wrote a letter to Chief Bernardi ( Lt.

Steve Bernardi, chief of the city's police services) and the City Council saying, 'It's finally happened.'"

Miramontes has made repeated visits to the City Council since buying her condominium in 2001. Residents say the neighborhood is congested and there's poor visibility on streets because cars are packed in. Nearby mechanics' garages on (more...)
