In my house, the living room to be exact, I was sitting down tasting the different foods that my family got for Christmas. I popped a cracker into my mouth. “Oh, that's good, but kind of salty,” I thought.
Then, I tasted something that was a red sphere. “What is this?” I wondered. After I ate another, I realized, “Oh, these are chocolate covered cherries! They're so good!”
They had a nice creamy milk chocolate layer, then of course the delicious cherry inside.
“Matt, taste this” I said to my brother lying on our blue sofa as I got up to give the delicious dessert to him to try.
After he popped the chocolate covered cherry in his mouth, me made a face like he was in heaven.
“That's so good, give me another one” he said in a demanding way.
“He's so rude!” I thought to myself. I ran back over to the basket with all the goodies, and grabbed two more.
“Here,” I said as I handed over the treasure, and then I walked away.
“Isn't he going to say thanks? Well, I'm going to go play outside” I thought to myself.
“Where should I put the chocolate covered cherries? Maybe I should put them behind the Christmas tree?” I thought as I looked at our dark green Christmas tree, covered in ornaments and white lights. The Christmas tree had boxes and pieces of wrapping paper under it.
“Sure, why not. Then I can get the chocolate covered cherries out when I am sitting here again” I thought. So, I got up and walked over to our beautiful Christmas tree. I slipped the chocolate covered cherries behind the tree where I thought that my dog Jenna wouldn't find them, or be able to get to them.
After I played outside, I went into the kitchen and got a nice cold glass of water. When I walked into the living room, I gasped.
Jenna, my dog, was throwing up. “Mommy, come up here! Jenna is throwing up!” I yelled down the stairs to my Mom in the office.
She walked upstairs and came over to me. “Oh my gosh! She has blood in her vomit. Does she have internal bleeding? Rich! Come upstairs!” she yelled.
“What?” my Dad questioned as he walked up the stairs.
“Is she going to die? Oh, poor Jenna!” I wondered, “Well, because it's the day after Christmas, are any vets going to be working today? I sure hope so! Oh, I hope that Jenna just ate something bad and that she is okay!”
“Okay, you know what Suzy, I'm going to go and try to find a vet that is open” my Dad said.
I sat down next to Jenna and I began to pet her soft golden fur. “You're okay! You're okay, Sweetie,” I said in a sweet voice as if I were talking to a baby.
“What will happen if Jenna dies? It will probably be sad!” I thought as I began to worry.
My mom took my dog to the emergency vet and my brother went too. About an hour later, I got a phone call from my Mom.
“Could Jenna have eaten any chocolate covered cherries?” my Mom asked.
“Well, I did. I thought that Jenna wouldn't eat them if I put them behind the Christmas tree. I guess she did. I am so sorry!,” I explained into the phone.
“Don't worry, I'll go tell the vets that it was just that.” my Mom said, “Bye!”
Then, after that call, I wasn't worried or scared. I just felt plain, old, stupid!
